Want to get rid of 'Modi'?

Want to get rid of ‘Modi’?

Do Meditation!

Let me clarify that this is not a political post.

A few days ago, there was a discussion on how to overcome the deluding (deceptive) nature of sensory perceptions and thoughts;

We have all experienced that what we see, hear, and think most of the time is not perceived as they truly are.

The impermanent nature of thoughts and sensory perceptions deceives/deludes us.  Thus, meditation which is being in Self awareness helps eliminate the ‘Modi’ of senses and thoughts.

The discussion was in Kannada language where the word for deceive/delude is ‘Modi’!

Not able to practice meditation regularly?

Do you know the real reason for not practicing meditation regularly?

Long ago, as I was trying to understand meditation, I came across different methods of doing meditation.

Each time I used to be ‘gung ho’ about the technique and speak about it relentlessly with whoever was ready to listen!

Soon lethargy sets in and nothing happens till I find some other interesting way of meditation.

I suspected the following are the real reasons for irregular practice;

1. Lack of time – If you are 30+, married, having  kid(s), building up a career, you know what it means. Absolutely there is no time for anything leave alone meditation!

2. Distractions and disruptions – Too many thoughts about future career progression, family matters and past mistakes won’t allow doing meditation regularly.

3. No proper guidance/support – Even when there is support/guidance, the information overload creates confusion!

4. Physical discomfort – Somehow we ignore physical exercise and try to compensate with more meditation. However, sitting in a particular posture for a long becomes unbearable putting an early stop to meditation!

You may be silently nodding your head and thinking these are reasons for me too.

But I was totally wrong!

The real reason is –

Meditation is a process of subtraction. It systematically strips down one to his/her bare essential nature!

Meditation dissolves all the mental structures, ideas, beliefs, opinions, and thoughts.

That’s why many people stop meditation at some point.

Meditation demands the utmost courage to wade into the unknown mind and just lose any identity one is living with.

So, dropping mind is meditation. And that gives the courage to face the unknown, uncertain, and dissolving identity.

That’s the paradox of meditation.

First rain

That's the transition happened today after many days of continuous rising of mercury, which made us to remember the original name of the city!

Today afternoon as the dark clouds gathered in the sky, I went to the terrace to enjoy the view.

The rain started slowly with music.

The big rain drops falling on the dish antenna composing the natural music.

Then rain gathered momentum adding its own music,  yet the initial music was being played in the background.

Enjoy the 90 seconds of bliss brought to you by nature!

Why believe in living up to 120 years?

Do you believe that tomorrow will be the last day of your life?

Or do you lean more towards the belief that you'll be alive tomorrow?

Two days ago, I wrote in a post that I aspire to live up to 120 years. It garnered various responses across the spectrum. Now, I'd like to provide the context in which I express this aspiration.
(There is a write-up on this in a booklet which I usually share with my new connections.)

In my sessions, I often express, "I aspire to live up to 120 years, yet I'm also at peace with the idea of saying goodbye to life at any moment, as it's not within our control."

Many people are uncomfortable with the idea of living beyond 80 years. This discomfort stems from witnessing the sufferings of old age and a desire to avoid such experiences.

However, when we affirm, "I aspire to live up to 120 years," it prompts us to prioritize the care of our bodies and minds from this very moment. This entails engaging in suitable exercises for our age and lifestyle, practicing moderation in eating habits, and ensuring good sleep.

Maintaining this ongoing commitment to self-care can lead to a healthy, medication-free life, regardless of the age we're destined to reach.

So, do you now aspire to live up to 120 years and feel motivated to undertake all that is necessary for a journey of well-being?

Aging gracefully

How long do you like to live?

My answer is always 120 years!

Recently Venki Ramakrishnan a Nobel-winning scientist also said in an interview - 120 is the absolute limit.

But, then most of us are not ok with reaching this absolute limit.

I ask the question of how long they would like to live in every session and receive answers from the audience ranging from 60 to 80 years.

Then I further ask why they do not aspire to reach 120 years, the answers are the same as those that are currently running in your mind!

When we enter the golden age (50 plus), suddenly we become aware that the people in our close proximity are suffering from chronic diseases, the infirmity of old age, moving in and out of hospitals, and a few unfortunate ones saying goodbye to life!

All this experience takes a heavy toll on the mind and questions the necessity of living a life of dependency and suffering.

Please watch the video accompanying this post now, if not watched it so far!

The lotus bud takes more than 10 days to bloom fully. Then it just withers away in two days!

Can we head to nature’s message through this lotus flower?

We strive through our 30s to 50s, and most build a robust life, with sound financial security. (Just like the lotus bud looks robust for more than 10 days)

However, as one enters the golden age, the occasional suffering from ill health,  listening/attending to people suffering old age ravages triggers the fear of death subtly.

All these things coupled with the inherent golden responsibilities at that stage of life lead to experiencing some unexplained fears, getting anxious, and worrying too much. (thought of withering away in just two days?!)

There must be a remedy for this, right?

Yes, let’s delve into the answer by Venki Ramakrishnan to the final question of the interview;

“…As I say in the book(Why We Die), age-old advice still works better than any anti-aging medicine available in the market.

Regular exercise, healthy and moderate eating, and adequate sleep – these are your secrets to a long life”

I fully agree with this, being sixty, medicine-free for the last 10 years, and willing to reach the human age limit of 120!

Self-awareness micro-practices have played a major role in this!

Message from Nature

If you are approaching the golden age or already into it (50+), here’s a message from nature!

Many people approaching 50 years of age suddenly feel anxious/fearful and feel that there is no meaning in life!

Notice how the lotus leaf gracefully withdraws from existence!

I will be coming out with a detailed post with another learning from nature on Monday!
Enjoy your day and night!
